Digital TV Converter & TV Live Online

Digital TV converter and TV online is the trend of today’s world. With a change to digital TV recently people are confused about whether it will affect them or not. Even some are not sure whether they need a digital TC converter box to receive TV using their RV's antenna. The recent question I received is about the digital TV, I tried to answer it and hope it will help others understand what this device is all about.

I'm still confused about the digital TV thing. Our 2006 RV is cable and internet ready, but if we are not at a campground do we need a converter to pick up TV signals after Feb?

There is a lot of confusion about change to digital broadcast TV that took place on February 17th, 2009. 

A digital tuner is necessary to receive the stations using antenna, if you don’t have it all you will get is snow.

If you are at a campground with cable TV, you will be able to receive TV, whether your TV has a digital tuner or an analog tuner.

As your RV is 2006 model there are pretty good chances that you need a converter box for TV in your RV to watch TV. (using an antenna.)

One of the government requirements is that all the TV’s that are sold after March 1, 2007 should have Digital Tuners. The TVs in your RV were manufactured before that.

Internet ready RV cable doesn’t mean that it is digital ready. It means that the wiring of your TV and computer were pre wired in when the unit was constructed.

Find the owner’s manual for your TV. The manual will tell you exactly whether it got the digital tuner or not. If there is nothing about the tuner I the manual then you need to have a converter box.

 If there are still doubts, try to find the model number of your TV. Once you got the number, go to the TV manufacturer’s website and look for the specifications of your model. If there is nothing about the tuner box in the specifications then you need to have a converter box.

Digital converter box ca cost to $40 to $100. These are available to electronic stores such as WalMarts, K-Marts etc.

The good news is that the government funded program to help compensate the cost of purchasing a converter box for TVs without digital tuners.

This program is known as "TV Converter Box Coupon Program". You will need to simply fill the form at the website and will receive up to two coupons at $40 each for the purchase of the converter box.

These coupons are similar to credit cards and are acceptable at places such as best buy. These coupons will only work for 90 days and after that they will be mailed to you. The limit is of 2 coupons per household.

The demand for these coupons is enormous that there will be short by the middle of the January unless funded by the government.
